Topic Details

As we usher in new technologies and many organizations have a planned migration to the cloud, the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve. What can we as leaders do to prepare and plan for the future? We will start our journey with an overview of the current cyber threat landscape. This overview includes data from several sources, including the FBI, The Verizon Data Breach, and others. What strategies can we use to protect cloud migrations? How can we capitalize on this migration while minimizing our risk profile?

After we review the current landscape, we will peek at future attack vectors and learn some things we can do to begin or expand the cyber protections of our organizations. What do AI and ML tools mean for our future? Is quantum computing a threat, and if so, when?

Next, let's briefly pivot to practical strategies and ways to get started. What are some quick wins to deliver cyber protection to your organization?

Topic #2: Employment Law Update

Presented by: Matt O'Rourke, Attorney at Miller Johnson

Employment laws seem to be changing by the minute, making staying up to date more important than ever. Matt O'Rourke, a member of Miller Johnson's employment and labor practice group, will be on hand to help you minimize risk with your employees and answer important questions about the current status of employment laws, like:

  • Did the NLRB ban confidentiality clauses in severance agreements? Does that apply to me?
  • How does the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act’s expansion of protected characteristics affect your workforce?
  • Is Michigan the new California when it comes to employment laws?
  • Did the FTC ban non-competes? Can the FTC ban non-competes? What does that even mean?
  • How are employers handling marijuana in a tight labor market, especially when recreational use is legal?
  • What do I need to do to comply with the new laws about pregnant and nursing workers?

About the Speaker:

Matt O'Rourke is an employee at Miller Johnson in their Employment & Labor group. With a B.A. and Law degree from the University of Notre Dame, Matt’s practice focuses on employment litigation, counseling clients on employment policies and practices, and traditional labor.
